==== bio ====

Timothy Schmidt has an extensive background in electronic systems diagnostics and repair.  As an innovator in the [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_and_open-source_software#FLOSS|Free, Libre, and Open Source Software]], [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open-source_hardware|Open Hardware]], and [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_modeling_and_fabrication|desktop fabrication]] movements for over twenty years.  Timothy has contributed to several software projects preserved for future generations at the [[https://archiveprogram.github.com/arctic-vault/|Arctic World Archive]] in Svalbard, Norway.  Tim maintained the first version of the [[https://reprap.org/wiki/Mendel|Mendel]]  3D printer in a [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_software|Free Software]] CAD system, and founded the [[https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/reprap-michigan|Michigan RepRap Users Group]].  Tim co-founded the [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Graphics_Project|Open Graphics Project]], and Open Hardware Foundation, and participated in development of the first Open Hardware phones via [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Openmoko|OpenMoko]].  Tim has helped to [[https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0147399|3D print human stem cells]] with [[https://reprap.org/wiki/OpenSLS|lasers]] and consulted on the development of the [[https://madeinspace.us/|3D printer aboard the international space station]].  As partner in [[https://www.muve3d.net/press/|mUVe3D]] he helped produce the industry's most open and flexible SLA liquid resin 3D printers.  Tim has co-founded and aided in the development of several [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fab_lab|community and maker spaces]].  For seven years Tim served as the Information Technologist of the [[https://beacon-center.org/|BEACON Center for the Study of Evolution in Action]] at [[https://msu.edu/|Michigan State University]].
